 CO2 Investigation

Mid-morning Sunday, San Bernardino County Fire Fighters from the City of Victorville responded to a report of white haze coming from a welding supply business in the 15600 block of 2ndStreet in Victorville. Response to the incident was San Bernardino County Fire with 2 Medic Engines, 1 Truck Company, 1 Hazardous Materials Unit and a Battalion Chief.

San Bernardino County Sheriff also responded and assisted with isolation of the area and shutting down streets.

Upon arrival, crews found a gas leak to the rear of the business and requested Hazardous Materials Units from San Bernardino County Fire’s Hazardous Materials team.  Crews isolated the area off and monitored the air quality to ensure there was no harm to public safety.

The Haz-Mat Crews made entry and found a Carbon Dioxide (CO2) leak from a 500 gallon tank at the business.  Crews used special safety gear and tools to shut the leak down and mitigate the hazard.  The leak was secured within an hour of the call.  After the leak was shut down, crews continued to monitor the air and tank to ensure the area was safe.  The business was closed at the time of the incident and no injuries were reported to civilians or fire personnel.
