Jet Skier Found

Labor Day play and fun on Big Bear Lake came to an abrupt halt for a family and  other boaters and water skiers. Monday afternoon September 9th, boaters observed what they believed to be a life-jacket floating in the water. Upon closer inspection, it was determined that the object was an unresponsive male subject. An unattended personal water craft was seen floating nearby. Immediately, the boaters flagged down the Big Bear Pirate Tour Ship, to radio for assistance. Big Bear Sheriff Deputies and officers of the Municipal Water District Lake Patrol were dispatched to the incident on the water.

Lake Patrol Officers and Sheriff Deputies responded to the scene in the Papoose Bay area. The male subject was lifted onto the Lake Patrol boat and first-responders immediately began CPR efforts.

Dead in Lake

The water craft was recovered and did not appear to be damaged. The victim was wearing a life jacket at the time he was pulled from the lake and no obvious signs of trauma were present.

The subject was transported to the West Boat Ramp where paramedics of the San Bernardino County Fire Station located in Fawnskin, administered further resuscitation efforts. Despite the best efforts of first-responders, the victim was not able to be revived and was pronounced deceased on scene. The San Bernardino County Sheriff/Coroner responded to recover the remains. An autopsy will be performed by the Coroner to identify the victim and determine the cause of death. The Boating Accident Investigation Team of the San Bernardino County Sheriff continues to investigate this matter.
