Cranston Burn Scar
July 23, 2019, San Bernardino ____
The California Department of
Transportation (Caltrans) is alerting the traveling public that the National
Weather Service (NWS) has projected an influx of monsoonal moisture which may
bring the chance of showers and thunderstorms throughout this week,
particularly in the afternoon and early evening.
Thunderstorms
that affect the Cranston Burn Scar (State Routes 74 and 243) could produce
rainfall rates of a quarter inch to three-quarter inches per hour. The thresh
hold for debris flows is 1.1 inch of rainfall per hour.
Caltrans
is alerting motorists that SR 74 between Hemet and Lake Hemet is subject to
closure
(for escorts) in the event that debris flows, or other conditions make the
roadway unsafe for travel. This also includes the open section of SR 243
between Idyllwild and Lake Fulmor. Motorists should always be prepared and us
extreme caution when driving on desert and mountain roadways during storm
events.

Be advised, weather conditions may affect this
