The Marine Corps 240th 

 

For the 240th year the United States Marine Corps will celebrate its Birthday on November 7th, all over the nation and especially one celebration will take place in Big Bear Valley. The local Marine Corps League Big Bear Valley Detachment #1038 invites all Veterans, Marines and the families of service personnel, both past and present, to join the special occasion Saturday November 7th.  Held at The Convention Center at Big Bear Lake, the birthday festivities begin with the Social Hour at 5:00 P.M. with cocktails (no host bar). Promptly at 6:15 P.M. the Opening Ceremony begins with the Marines traditional Cake Cutting, followed by a delightful dinner.   

The Marine Corps League‘s guest speaker will be Lieutenant Colonel Gregory Thomas, USMC retired.  A native of Indiana, Lieutenant Thomas enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1985 and was commissioned through the Reserve Officer Training Program, where he attended Purdue University.  The Lieutenant’s assignments have included: the 8th Engineer Support Battalion, MEU Service Support Group, Marine Wing Support Group 271, 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron. He also served as the Facilities Maintenance Officer at Camp Pendleton, California. Residing in Temecula, the Lieutenant and Mrs. Thomas have two children.

Another pleasure of the evening, will be honoring WWII Veteran, U.S. Army and Purple Heart recipient, Jack Green. Green is John Green’s, local Big Bear City CSD Board Member.

The Convention Center at Big Bear Lake is located at the intersection of Big Bear Boulevard and Division Road.
