The members of the Big Bear Valley Republican Assembly invite the community to attend the Tuesday December 15th meeting at 5:00 P. M.  The venue for the evening event will be made available to everyone, when they call in their RSVP.  

The special meeting will include: the Monthly Business Agenda and updates of City of Big Bear Lake, San Bernardino County and California Elected Officials. Also, there will be an opportunity to become acquainted with Assemblyman Rocky Chavez.  A pot-luck dinner will be served during the evening with the  finale of the meeting , the Republican Presidential Debate on television. 

    

Assemblyman Rocky Chavez 

 

The guest speaker at the 5:00 P.M. meeting will be Assemblyman Rocky Chavez a candidate for U.S. Senate. A career United States Marine of twenty-eight years,  was assigned as Chief of Staff for the 4th Marine Division. Appointed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2009, Colonel Rocky Chávez served as Undersecretary of the California Department of Veterans Affairs (CDVA); and later served as Acting Secretary of the CDVA.

Assembly member Chávez sits on the Committee on Veterans Affairs after having presided as the Vice-Chair on the Committee prior to 2014. He is also part of the Governor’s Military Council.  In 2015, Chávez introduced AB 13, that would exempt nonresident veterans utilizing federal education benefits from out-of-state tuition fees.   

Married for twenty-five years, Colonel Chávez and his wife Mary live in Oceanside, California. They have three adult children and five grandchildren. 

Chávez has focused and been an advocate in Veteran affairs, the American Legion, National Guard and Disabled Veteran Business Enterprises. According to Pete Conaty, Legislative Advocate for the American Legion, “Since Rocky came to Sacramento in 2009 to serve as the Under-secretary for the CDVA, his focus has been serving our veterans.  He has carried on with this mission during his tenure in the Legislature”.
