Senator Recognized for Pro-Jobs Support

Senator Mike Morrell (R-Rancho Cucamonga) Tuesday October 4, 2016, announced that he is one of only 29 lawmakers in 2016 to be recognized by the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) (link is external) for his perfect vote record in support of California small businesses.

“Getting our friends and neighbors back to work has been, and remains, one of my top priorities,” said Senator Morrell. “As a small business owner for over 25 years, I know how difficult it can be to navigate the state’s many regulations and high taxes. We still have much to do on this front, but I am proud to stand with my colleagues as we strive to make California a place where every entrepreneur and motivated individual has an opportunity to prosper and succeed.”

Each year, NFIB publishes a legislative “Voting Record (link is external),” evaluating Senators and Assembly-members on their commitment to protecting small business owners in California.

Issues considered on the 2016 list ranged from expansive and costly environmental mandates (SB 32 (link is external)) to laws that create employment barriers to entry-level workers (SB 3 (link is external)), both of which were opposed by Senator Morrell. NFIB also included SB 269 (link is external), a measure co-authored by the Senator, to spare small business owners from frivolous lawsuits.

The Senator’s record this past year earned him a place in National Federation of Independent Business’s 100% Club, a designation given to less than a quarter of legislators during the second half of the 2015-16 legislative session. The entire scorecard, including bills, can be viewed here.
