Hesperia, CA – Friday, September 20, 2019 Assemblyman Jay Obernolte announced his
candidacy for the 8th Congressional District following the announcement
that current Congressman Colonel Paul
Cook (ret.) would seek election to the San Bernardino County Board of
Supervisors.
Assemblyman Obernolte is also honored to announce his endorsement by
Congressman Cook to represent the 8th Congressional District, which encompasses all or portions of San Bernardino, Inyo, and Mono
Counties.
“I have watched Jay fight for our
district in Sacramento for the last six years. There's no better advocate
for veterans, taxpayers, and small businesses than Jay, and nobody I trust more
to represent us in Washington D.C.” stated Congressman Cook.
“As a local small business owner, I know firsthand
the burdens that Washington D.C. puts on our communities,” said Obernolte.
“I’m asking the constituents of the 8th Congressional District for their vote because
we must stand up for the middle-class, cut government waste, balance the
budget, defend our constitutional rights, protect our veterans, and strengthen
our national defense.”
As a member of the State
Legislature, Assemblyman Obernolte passed more legislation than any
current state lawmaker in the Inland Empire and has focused on solving
problems that improve the quality of life of everyday Californians.
Obernolte’s successful
legislation includes bills making government more efficient and effective, as
well as strengthening penalties on criminals and protecting taxpayers. He has
helped stop over $300 billion in harmful tax increases on the middle class
(including a $220 million tax on drinking water), fought for better access to
healthcare, and voted to audit wasteful government programs such as the DMV and
high speed rail, which resulted in billions of dollars of savings for
taxpayers.
“For the last eight
years, Congressman Paul Cook has been an effective voice for our veterans and
our district,” stated Obernolte. “I believe I can continue Congressman Cook’s
work and use my experience passing legislation to break through the gridlock in
Washington D.C. and be a strong advocate for my constituents.”
Jay Obernolte started
FarSight Studios, a software development company, in his college dorm room.
Today, his local small business employs dozens of residents in the
8th Congressional District. Jay also has 14 years of experience in public
service. He is currently serving a third term representing the 33rd
Assembly District in the California State Legislature, which includes over 65%
of the 8th Congressional District's voters. Jay has been married to his
wife Heather for 23 years and they have two sons, Hale and Troy.
