Illegal Fire Tax Community Forum
Assemblyman
& Senator
to Host
Illegal Fire Tax
Community Discussion
Sacramento, California____ Friday, Assemblyman
Jay Obernolte (R-Hesperia) announced that he will host a series of community
information forums to discuss the Fire Prevention Fee, and will be joined by
Senator Mike Morrell.
“Many property owners in my district suffer
under this illegal tax,” stated Assemblyman Obernolte. “I want to make
sure my constituents are informed about this issue and the actions being taken
to provide relief to taxpayers.”
“I continue to believe that the fire prevention ‘fee’ is an
illegal tax on hundreds of thousands of property owners throughout the state,”
said Morrell. “It was forced through the legislature without the necessary
two-thirds vote, circumventing the required process, which is why the state now
finds itself in a class-action lawsuit challenging the tax.
While I remain committed to repealing it altogether, until
that happens, property owners should at least know exactly how and where the
money is being used. I am glad to be a principal coauthor of AB 211 to shine
more light on the program.”
Saturday, June 17, 2017 the two forums will
take place in Lake Arrowhead and Big Bear City. The dates, times and locations
of the forum events are listed below. All constituents who pay the Fire Tax are encouraged to attend to
