REVISED SR 18 Closure Schedule 

According to City Manager Jeff Mathieu, "The City of Big Bear Lake did not specifically have advance notice on the October 15th opening of State Route 18. However, we appreciate the initiative of Caltrans to provide an additional highway opening given the traffic delays on State Route 38 for the complex bridge installation." 

 Thursday October 9th a Caltrans advisory states that SR 18 and SR 330 will have more than usual traffic on Wednesday, October 15, due to the SR 38 closure. Additional traffic will be coming to the mountains Wednesday for the Special Olympics World Games kick-off festivities to be held at the Host Town, Lake Arrowhead.

E T RUSSELL ___ Thursday October 9, 2014__ The Department of Transportation District 8, Caltrans Maintenance crews will clean roadside shoulders, turnouts, remove slide material, and clean drainage inlets and outlets on State Route 18 in the Arctic Circle area, rather the Big Bear Dam to Snow Valley.

SR-18 will be completely open on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 while State Route 38 is closed for the permit project to install a pedestrian bridge by the Boy Scouts Association. The SR-18 closures will go back into effect on Thursday, October 16 for the remainder of the work schedule. For details on the October 15th, SR-38 closure visit:

DETOURS: Alternate routes are available on SR-38 from Mentone and SR-18 from Lucerne to Big Bear Lake. A paving and guardrail project is in process on State Route 38 to motorists using SR-38 can expect flagging and minor delays while using the detour during daytime hours.
