“I
am proud that District 8 employees worked together and generously contributed

Caltrans District-8 and Southern California Firefighters’
Spark of Love
San
Bernardino ___ The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), District 8 participated in the annual
ABC7 (Los Angeles) and Southern California Firefighters’ Spark
of Love toy drive this morning. As part of the ABC7 (Los Angeles) Stuff-a-
Bus live broadcast, District 8 Director Basem Muallem, along
with Caltrans employees, delivered nearly $5,000 worth of gifts, including:
toys, school supplies, sporting equipment and other items for children and
teens at the Mathis Brothers Furniture drop-off station in Ontario, California.
Once delivered at the drop-off location, the volume of toys and gifts filled an
Omnitrans Bus.
Starting
in November, Caltrans District 8
hosted an all employee Stuff-a-Truck
toy drive for this cause. As a result of the generosity of the District 8
staff, a one-ton cargo body truck, as well as a maintenance utility truck, were
filled to capacity with gifts.
According
to event organizers, Spark of Love
has successfully collected more than 8 million toys over the past two decades.
The campaign collects new, unwrapped toys and sports equipment for underserved
children and teens in Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Orange, Ventura and
Riverside counties.
District
8 employees were honored to be part of such a worthwhile cause.
