MAN with a Gun

Victorville Police, Victor
Valley College Officers and San Bernardino County Sheriff Aviation Deputies responded
to a report of a man with a gun inside the Shell Gas Station in the 17900 block
of Bear Valley Road, at approximately 4:15 P.M., Saturday, February 23, 2019.
The reporting party
stated that the suspect, later identified as Daniel David Messmer, was armed
with a handgun and appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance.
Upon arrival, deputies located the suspect in the desert area east of the gas
station armed with a handgun. Deputies gave multiple commands, pleading with
the suspect to drop his weapon.
The suspect failed to
comply with the deputies’ commands and pointed his gun at the Deputies. Fearing
for their safety and the safety of nearby citizens, a deputy involved shooting
occurred. Emergency medical personnel arrived at the scene, and pronounced the
suspect deceased.
