Tea Inspiring Stories with Tech Trek Girls’

This past summer seven Big Bear Middle School girls attended Tech Trek camp, sponsored by the Big Bear branch of the American Association of University (AAUW). The camp program is one part of AAUW’s efforts to empower girls to reach their full potential.

On Sunday, October 19th the Tech Trek Girls will tell about their experiences at a tea to be held at Moonridge Coffee Company starting at 2:00 P.M. The public is invited to enjoy complimentary tea, coffee and desserts while listening to these bright, enthusiastic students speak and answer questions from the audience.

The Tech Trek Girls, who entered 8th grade this fall, were nominated by their teachers for the program, with final selection by AAUW based on academic potential and interest in the “STEM” fields of science, technology, engineering and math. Each year AAUW raises funds to send deserving girls to Tech Trek camp, which features hands-on activities in math, science and related fields. All sleeping, eating, instructional, and recreational facilities are located on a university campus where camps are held.  Tech Trek Girls invariably return determined to attend college, with a goal of study in the STEM fields.

Moonridge Coffee Company is located at 42646 Moonridge Road. For more information, contact AAUW Tech Trek chairperson Cindy Caretto at cindycaretto@charter.net.
