Passes First Committee Hurdle
Assembly Bill 1651 requires contracts be posted online
Sacramento, California____ Today, March 30, 2016 CPUC Contracting
Transparency Act of 2016 authored by Assemblyman Jay Obernolte (R-Hesperia)
passed unanimously out of the Assembly Committee on Utilities and Commerce. The
bill, Assembly Bill 1651, seeks to improve transparency and accountability at
the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) by requiring contracts and
audits to be posted on the CPUC website for the public to freely access

“I’m very pleased to see that my colleagues
support transparency at the CPUC as much as I do,” Assemblyman Obernolte said. “My hope is
that AB 1651 will shine a light on questionable contracting practices and
provide the public with the tools needed to keep the commission accountable.”
AB 1651 will next be heard in the Assembly Committee on
Appropriations.
