Sunday December 17, 2017, at approximately 1:50 P.M., Hesperia Sheriff Deputies and Police plus San Bernardino County Fire responders were dispatched to an injury, single off-road vehicle traffic collision. The incident location was in the desert area off Acacia Road, east of U.S. Highway # 395 in the City of Hesperia.

Hesperia Sheriff Deputies and San Bernardino County Fire personnel arrived on scene and found a 2009 Yamaha Rhino, overturned with the adult male driver trapped underneath the vehicle.

Previous to the responders’ arrival the adult female passenger was able to escape from the Yamaha Rhino, but was suffering from her minor injuries.

The male driver of the off-road vehicle, was extricated from under the it, however despite efforts by Fire Emergency Responders, the injuries sustained to the driver during the collision were fatal. The female passenger was transported by ground ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Based on evidence at the scene it was determined the 2009 Yamaha Rhino,  had been traveling east on an unmaintained dirt trail near Acacia Road, when the driver made a left turn at an unknown speed, causing the vehicle to overturn. The driver and passenger were both wearing safety harnesses, however helmets were not being used and the driver was partially ejected as the off-road vehicle overturned.
