President Ronald Reagan
once said, “All great change in America begins at the dinner table,” and he
was right. Thanksgiving is one
of my favorite holidays because families across America set aside distractions
to come together, share a meal and give thanks for everything good in their
lives.
Many of us will be with our loved ones watching football and sitting around a
dinner table to carry on lifelong traditions. Others will be celebrating their
first Thanksgiving and starting new family traditions of their own. Yet for
many Californians, some seats at the family table may be empty due to loved
ones currently serving in the Armed Forces. This is why I believe Thanksgiving
is the perfect time to express our deepest gratitude to the members of our
Armed Forces and their families.
Many of our military
service members are still deployed overseas and fighting for our
freedoms. I would ask that you join me in saluting them for their service
and sacrifice and ask that you please keep them and their families in your
thoughts this Thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving is also a
good time to help those in our community who need it most. I invite you to help
share the joy and generosity of the holidays by serving our neighbors at the
local food bank, volunteering time at local youth programs, or even putting
together care packages for our troops. Even the smallest gesture can have a
major impact.
However you decide to spend your time this holiday, I extend warm wishes to You
and your Family that you experience a safe and Happy Thanksgiving from myself,
my wife Heather, and sons Hale and Troy.
It is an honor to represent you.
Sincerely,
