UPDATES:  Big Bear Lake NewsRoom elected to refer to San Bernardino County Fire twitter accounting of the Cajon Pass Wednesday Incident. All responding agencies were immediately overwhelmed with challenges of the dense fog and the rush to assist the many stranded motorists and prioritizing the injured; therefore details of the chain-reaction accident were hampered.  This reporter was keeping in contact with Caltrans Terri Kasinga, who was dealing with the weather issues while determining the road conditions on Interstate 15.  Soon after the 11:30 A.M. incident, Caltrans closed the northbound lanes, but left the southbound lanes open for emergency vehicles.

Responding agencies were: Caltrans, California Highway Patrol – Inland Division, San Bernardino County Fire Department.

I have seen fog in this area in the winter but never this close to summer. The fog can get so thick it is hard to see other cars lights unless they have their hazards on and people drive through this at like 100 mph with seemingly little concern....
