Human Trafficking Task Force Investigators

  

San Bernardino County Human Trafficking Task Force Investigators, were contacted by SBCS-Victorville Station Detectives Sunday, June 6, 2021 at 12:00 P.M. noon, regarding an ongoing investigation of alleged kidnapping and possible human trafficking. The Detectives indicated they had contacted and arrested the possible suspect, later identified as Trayvon Ashley, for several outstanding arrests warrants, including a felony no-bail warrant issued by the state of Texas.

Due to the complexity of the case, the detectives asked if the SBHTTF Investigators would respond and assist with the investigation into the allegations of human trafficking.  The Task Force Investigators were told the possible juvenile victim had been contacted and was to meet with investigators at the Victorville Sheriff Station. Upon her arrival, SBHT Task Force Investigators were able to interview her about the human trafficking allegations. 

During the interview, Task Force Investigators learned the victim was actively being sexually exploited and forced to work as a prostitute. Investigators continued to interview the victim but were unable to establish who the victim's trafficker(s) were at that time. Investigators then interviewed Trayvon Ashley, who indicated he was familiar with the victim but denied any knowledge of her being forced to work as a prostitute.

San Bernardino County Sheriff Investigators provided the victim with access to medical care, resources, and assistance in getting her safely returned to her family.

The suspect, 23-year-old Trayvon Ashley a resident of Victorville, California, was transported and booked at High Desert Detention Center for his outstanding warrants.

While Ashley remains in custody, Task Force Investigators continued the investigation into the human trafficking of the juvenile victim.

Through several means of investigation, investigators discovered evidence indicating Ashley's knowledge and relationship with the juvenile victim was more than expressed during the initial interview and supported his direct involvement in the human trafficking of the juvenile victim. Investigators also identified a second, adult victim, believed to be trafficked by Ashley.  

Thursday, June 24, 2021, Task Force investigators presented their investigation to the San Bernardino District Attorney office and added the felony violations of Pimping, Pandering and Human Trafficking of both juvenile and adult victims to Ashly's current custody status.

Ashly remains in custody at the West Valley Detention Center and is being held in lieu of $500,000 as well as the original no-bail warrant.   

The San Bernardino County Human Trafficking Task Force is made up of investigators from the San Bernardino County Sheriff,

San Bernardino County District Attorney Office, Redlands Police Department,

San Bernardino City Unified School Police Department, Office of Homeland Security and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
