FATAL Hit and Run Collision I-15

The CHP Barstow Dispatch Center received a call Thursday, July 16,
2020, at approximately 0041 hours, of a two-vehicle traffic collision which
occurred on Interstate 15 northbound, south of Bear Valley Road. Witnesses
reported one of the vehicles fled the collision scene and exited the freeway
onto Bear Valley Road.
CHP Officers from Victorville Area, as well as the San
Bernardino County Fire responded to the collision scene. Multiple
units responded to the area of Bear Valley Road and Interstate 15 and began
searching for the suspected vehicle that fled the collision scene.
The preliminary investigation revealed
an unknown driver was driving a black 2005 Ford Expedition, northbound on
Interstate 15, south of Bear Valley Road, at a high rate of speed. A
65-year-old female resident of Victorville, CA was driving a black 2006 Nissan
Pathfinder, northbound on Interstate 15, south of Bear Valley Road, directly
in-front of the Ford Expedition. For reasons still under investigation, the
Ford Expedition collided with the rear of the Nissan Pathfinder. This
impact caused the Nissan Pathfinder to leave the east road edge and collide
with a drainage culvert before overturning and colliding with a utility pole
which resulted in fatal injuries to the driver.
The Ford Expedition continued north on
Interstate 15, without stopping, and exited Bear Valley Road. Officers
located the Ford Expedition abandoned a short time later parked in-front of the
United Rental property located on Mariposa road, South of Bear Valley Road.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff Air
Support Unit, 40-King, as well as the Barstow Police Departments K-9
Unit responded to the scene to assist in aerial searching for the suspect
who was unable to be located.
