Interregional
Strategic Plan
August 2, 2021__ Sacramento, CA__ The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) kicked-off the public comment period Monday August 2,
2021 for its draft plan for highway and rail improvements to more safely,
efficiently and sustainably move people and goods between different regions in
the state.
The newly released draft 2021 Interregional Transportation Strategic Plan
(ITSP) proposes the policy framework, goals and strategies that
will guide Caltrans and partner agencies on developing and prioritizing
transportation projects connecting California’s distinct regions.
“Californians deserve a world-class
transportation system that is safe, sustainable, equitable and interconnected
while fitting the unique needs of all areas in our state,” said Caltrans
Director Toks Omishakin. “We are requesting your input to help make that
vision a reality.”
Updated every five years,
the draft 2021 ITSP focuses on enhancements to key highway and rail
corridors throughout the state to expand mobility options, improve safety and
accessibility, ensure the efficient movement of goods, reduce greenhouse gas
emissions, and fortify transportation infrastructure to be more resilient to
the impacts of climate change.
