Alternate Response Vehicle Utilized

in Fall Rescuing Victim

Big Bear Lake, CA__ Big Bear Fire Department Personnel were dispatched at 9:25 A.M. Thursday morning August 4, 2022, to a rescue call of a fall victim at the Castle Rock Trail in Big Bear Lake.

With limited access in the rugged terrain of the Castle Rock Trail, located east of the Big Bear Lake Dam Bridge and south of the State Route 18, Big Bear Fire paramedics and rescuers utilized e department’s heavy-duty, off-road Polaris Ranger 6x6, to access the start of a 1.5 mile hike to reach the location of the injured victim.

The patient was treated at the scene for moderate injuries, transferred to a backboard for stabilization, and loaded onto a one-wheel gurney. Big Bear Fire Paramedics trekked the patient back down the trail to a waiting ambulance for transport and further treatment at a local area hospital.

Due to limited access where the patient was injured, nearby hikers assisted the Paramedics with getting the patient safely off the trail. The Big Bear Fire Department appreciates the assistance of these individuals to get medical attention to the patient as quickly as possible.

A total of five Big Bear Fire Department personnel, staffing, one medic ambulance and one medic engine responded to the rescue.
