2nd ALARM Apartment
Fire
Friday February 24th at 7:44P.M., Fire Crews
from San Bernardino County Fire Department responded to a two-story apartment
fire in the 1200 block of E. Lynwood Dr. in the City of San
Bernardino. Crews arrived to find heavy flames and smoke coming from an
apartment on the first floor, with flames extending into two additional
apartments on the second floor. The incident commander quickly requested a second
alarm response to assist with fire fighting efforts.
Fire Crews mounted an aggressive fire attack and were
able to keep the fire from extending into additional apartments. All occupants
evacuated their apartments prior to the arrival of fire units. It took crews 50
minutes to fully extinguish the fire. There were two minor injuries to
civilians. Both were transported by ground ambulances to area hospitals for
treatment. One Fire Fighter suffered a moderate shoulder injury while battling
the flames. The Fire Fighter was also transported by ground ambulance to an area
hospital.
A total of four apartments were damaged in the fire
resulting in fifteen residents being displaced. The Red Cross was requested to
respond to assist.
In total, 34 fire personnel responded to the blaze. There
was a total of seven medic engines, two ladder trucks, a medic squad, two
battalion chiefs, A safety officer, and a fire investigator that responded. It
has been determined that the fire started on the first floor.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation
