With
lasting winter weather conditions, firefighters will continue pile burning
projects
to protect communities and contribute to forest health.
Scheduled
Throughout Our Forest
Multiple
locations throughout the national forest:
- Angelus Oaks (new): Up to 20 acres
worth of piles could be burned to the west of the community of Angelus Oaks,
off State Route 38.
- Interstate 15 (new): 12 acres worth of
piles are slated to be burned at the Mormon Rocks Fire Station, just west of
I-15 in the Cajon Pass.
- Del Rosa (new): 15 acres worth
of piles are at the Del Rosa Fire Station, just north of the namesake
neighborhood in the city of San Bernardino.
- Big Bear Lake (continuing): The Lake
Williams project (780 piles/78 acres), southeast of the lake, runs along State
Route 38 for approximately two miles, starting at Lake Williams Drive and
running toward Onyx Summit.
- State Route 330 (continuing): More
piles in the five-acre project may be burned at City Creek Fire Station,
between Running Springs and Highland.
- Idyllwild (continuing): The Pine
Cove Fuel Break (2,000 to 3,000 piles/234 acres) is a large project to the west
of Idyllwild. The project could be completed this week.
The Pile
Burning Project will be the week of February 26, 2018 depending on a variety of
factors, including daily weather conditions.
