I’m Mark Meuser
and I know I can serve You, Californians best as your Secretary of State!
One year ago, I announced that I
was running to be your next California Secretary of State. This year, I have
made 810 campaign appearances while visiting all 58 counties and driving a
total of 92,500 miles. These miles do not include my 46 day bike ride to all 58
counties, nor the miles that I have flown.
I want to take a minute to thank
all those who have made it possible for me to campaign to be your next
Secretary of State. Without your generous support, I could not have campaigned
as hard as I have.
Thank you. You have been the wind to my sails.
Incompetence:
The current Secretary of State has proven just how incompetent he is in running
California’s elections. This last week, the media has been talking a lot about
how DMV was registering people to vote who were not eligible. The Secretary of
State of course is blaming everyone else for the DMV problems except himself.
His motto appears to be, “Pass the buck” not “The buck stops here”.
The current Secretary of State was the one who signed a consent decree earlier
this year forcing the state of California into registering everyone to vote at
the DMV. This agreement required the new voter registration process to begin in
the middle of an election year. Federal and State law says that it is the duty
of the Secretary of State to maintain the voter rolls. The Secretary of State
is still required to oversee the voter registration process even though DMV
employees were processing the applications.
The current Secretary of State failed to properly test the DMV registration
process to make sure the two databases were properly communicating. More
importantly, he failed to put the proper safeguards in place to ensure that
those who were ineligible to vote where not added to the voter rolls. Because
of his rush to push DMV voter registration on this state, there have been over
100,000 defective voter registrations in the last several months.
