E.T. Russell, April 26, 2013, 1:30 P.M., Big Bear Lake ____ At approximately 9:30 A.M. a sig-alert was issued for a traffic accident of a fuel tanker roll-over on State Route-38. The accident happened four miles north of Angeles Oaks. Upon immediate response it was discovered that the 2-trailer tanker loaded with 4000 gallons of gasoline and a 1000 diesel spilling downhill into Cold Creek.

Referred to
as the Cold Creek Incident alerted fire personnel from San Bernardino County fire, Big Bear Lake, CalFire and Forest Service as well as HAZMAT (Hazardous Material Incident). CHP and Caltrans were on scene as soon as possible. A soft closure to traffic on SR-38 was quickly activated but concern for travelers trying to approach the area from forest roads and the 1N09 Forest Road homes, became a safety issue.

Within the first hour a hard closure was issued on State Route 38 from Lake Williams to Angelus Oaks.
